The Global Health Peru: Clinical Experience Program gives students an opportunity to have first-hand, clinical access to Peru´s healthcare system and cutting-edge global health research. Designed for those interested in a career in the health professions and global health, students participate in both clinical rotations, site visits, and a research capstone project. In the morning, students take a clinical rotation internship at the Hospital Cayetano Heredia in Lima providing them with a unique, hands-on learning opportunity. Students will participate in a specific medical area at the hospital such as Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Surgery for a total of 80 clinical rotation hours. In the afternoons, students will engage in global health research involving classes, site visits and a capstone project. Site visits include a rehabilitation center combatting disability in a peri-urban community, a Women’s Emergency Center to address violence against women, and the implementation of electronic medical records in peri-urban settlements.
